Piano and piano, not exactly the first kind of duo one could think of. There is however a huge repertoire composed especially for this combination, mostly in the last century. Piano Duo Gerard Bouwhuis and Cees van Zeeland is performing already for over a quarter of a century, which was celebrated with this cd, a collection of 20th century music for two pianos. From Stravinsky’s Concerto per Due Pianoforte Soli (1935) through Boulez’ Structures – Livre II (1961) to Adam’s Hallelujah Junction (1998). Whether it’s neoclassicism, serialism, or minimalism, every -ism is played with just as much love and persuasion. The fun Bouwhuis and Van Zeeland have playing the Steinways just jumps off the record!
