The four works recorded here originated in Salzburg in the years 1769 and 1773 respectively, and are, together with the Serenade KV 100 (62a), the earliest surviving compositions of Mozart in this category. In the eighteenth century the generic concepts of Cassation, Divertimento or Serenade were not precisely established, and were used inconsistently by Mozart himself.
