Mendelssohn's trios are real masterpieces. The pieces won a place of honor among trio compositions soon after their premier. His Trio No. 1 still belongs to one of the most played compositions in all of chamber music. His second trio sounds like a sonorous chronicle of the months when it was created.
The following leitmotivs can be heard: distress and rescue, waking and living of nature, the struggle of the seasons, prayer and thanks. It was to be Mendelssohn's last chamber music piece with a piano. The Altenberg Trio plays this famous work with such precision and devotion that listeners become breathless.
